Girls outshine boys in Class X Board exam

The Uttar Pradesh Board on Tuesday announced the results for the Class X exams,grades for which were accorded for the first time.

Even as girls outshone boys in the High School exams,a Kanpur boy,Rishi Yadav,topped the state securing 92.15 per cent. Among the girls,Akansha Tiwari from Gonda district secured the first position securing 90.01 per cent.

Chairman of the Board Sanjay Mohan said: “This year,the Board had introduced the grading system. We are giving marks of individual subjects in the marksheet along with grades.”

According to him,a nine-point grading system was introduced for theory subjects and five-point system for practicals. Students who failed in one subject other than Hindi,which was made compulsory,has been declared pass. Those who failed in two subjects,including Hindi,will have to clear the Hindi paper in the exams scheduled to be held in July this year. Students who failed in three subjects will get the facility of credit system,whereby a student can clear the subjects within three years.

* The overall pass percentage is 70.7 per cent — 14.1 per cent higher than that last year’s pass percentage.
* While the girls secured a pass percentage of 77.29,for boys it was 64.21 per cent.
* Of the 71 districts,Lalitpur,Banda and Balia remained at the bottom with 50.5 per cent,52.64 per cent and 53.02 per cent respectively.
* Meerut topped among the four regions with 72.01 per cent successful candidates. The pass percentage of Bareilly region is 71.6 while Varanasi region stood third with 70.3 per cent and Allahabad region remained last with 70.2 per cent.
* 33,05,573 students appeared for the Board exams (19,22,649 boys and 13,82,924 girls).
* 12,24,564 boys cleared the exams whereas 10,68,867 girls were declared successful.
