For recarpeting work, Lucknow runway to stay shut from 10 am to 6 pm for 4 months
Flight services won’t be hit as 99% air travel movements to continue: Airport

With the runway at Chaudhary Charan Singh International (CCSI) Airport in Lucknow set to undergo recarpeting, flight services will be operational before 10 am and after 6 pm from March 1. The change in the flight operations’ schedule will continue till July 15, the deadline for wrapping up the carpeting work.
The international airport in Lucknow is managed by Adani Airport Holdings Limited. Officials said the recarpeting of the runway was due as it was last done in 2018.
“The CCSI Airport will facilitate 132 ATMs (aircraft travel movements) per day during the recarpeting. Certain flight schedules may be adjusted, and passengers are advised to check with their respective airlines for any updates or changes in the flight schedule,” an airport official said.
At present, the usual aircraft travel movements per day at the Lucknow airport is 140.
“Almost 99 per cent of the flights would continue their operations as the upgradation work would be carried out from 10 am to 6 pm,” said an official.
An official statement issued by the airport said: “In order to prioritise passenger safety and enhance the overall efficiency of its operations, Chaudhary Charan Singh International (CCSI) Airport, managed by Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), will commence the recarpeting of Runway 09/27… on 1 March, 2025.”
“Having taken the runway closure into consideration, airlines will operate scheduled flights prior to 1000 hours and after 1800 hours for the duration of the recarpeting. During this period, the airport will implement a comprehensive plan to ensure the continuity of services and to mitigate any potential inconveniences to passengers and airlines,” it added.
Officials said that the 2,744-metre-long and 45-metre-wide bituminous runway, with an additional 7.5 metres shoulder on either side of the runway, was last recarpeted in 2018. The scheduled recarpeting will include “milling of the existing bituminous runway, followed by bituminous inlay and overlay” to meet the design parameters in line with standards specified by the regulator.
A total area of 1.80 lakh square metres, which would include both the runway and taxiways, will be recarpeted, as part of the project. Officials said that the repairs have been conceptualized over the years to “improve texture, friction, profile, strength, operational efficiency”.
Further, to be able to provide faster entry and exit of aircraft after landing or take-off, from the runway, the CCSI airport will construct a new full length parallel taxiway of 2,744 metres and an additional taxiway.
Other upgradation works would include conversion of the Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) system to LED from halogen, aimed at saving 50 per cent of the electricity at the airport, along with upgradation of airfield signage.
“The upgradation has been planned after attaining prior approvals from the regulatory authorities and the airlines have been intimated well in advance so that they can reschedule the flights accordingly,” said an official.
