For Mayawati, ‘Samajwadi Party tactics’ only hurdle up ahead

During the meeting, the BSP president reviewed the organisational functioning of the party in UP and Uttarakhand and issued directives for completion of remaining works before the 2017 polls.

Buoyed by the results of panchayat polls, BSP supremo Mayawati Thursday said that her party leaders will win a large number of zila panchayat chairperson posts and thereafter try to stop any “tactics” employed by the Samajwadi Party to manipulate the elections. She also asked her party cadres to “remain alert” to the designs of rivals, especially “communal agenda of BJP and company”, in the run up to the 2017 Assembly election.

Addressing senior party leaders, zonal coordinators, MLAs, MLCs and district presidents at her residence in Lucknow, Mayawati claimed that the BSP “performed well” in the recently-held panchayat polls in the state and that a large number of BSP workers were elected as zila panchayat members by the people.

“And if the SP doesn’t manipulate government machinery like before , BSP leaders will win the election for zila panchayat chairpersons too in large numbers,” she said. Zila panchayat chairpersons are elected by zila panchayat members.

During the meeting, the BSP president reviewed the organisational functioning of the party in UP and Uttarakhand and issued directives for completion of remaining works before the 2017 polls.

According to a BSP statement, the leader said that if people of Bihar can avoid being misled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP would never be able to form its government there. But if the people allow Modi and BJP to mislead them, then the NDA will benefit but it would cause heavy loss to the state, the statement also said.

“And then Bihar will witness the chaos similar to what the whole country is witnessing,” she said.

Mayawati said the party workers should start working on strengthening the organisation, the work of which had been halted due to panchayat elections.

She also stressed that there should be a large gathering at Lucknow’s Ambedkar Samajik Parivartan Sthal on the death anniversary of Bhim Rao Ambedkar on December 6.

She added that the party must complete the work of “organisation building” by the time Assembly elections arrive. She said the opposition parties will use “several dirty tricks” to create an atmosphere in their favour but the BSP supporters should be made aware of the communal agenda of the BJP.
