The Communist Party of India(CPI),in its manifesto for UP Assembly polls, claimed credit for NREGS and RTI Act,saying the UPA,in its first term, brought them under pressure of the Left.
The manifesto says that UPA-I,under the pressure of the Left,on one side brought schemes like Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (also called NREGS) and enacted laws like Right to Information (RTI),on the other side, inflation remained under control and corruption could not flourish. While the UPA-II,which is supported by SP and BSP,created new records in corruption and inflation, the manifesto says.
The CPI manifesto, which was released on Saturday, also promised to start an NREGS-like scheme for the urban poor. The manifesto promised 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and Assemblies, enactment of a law for punishing those who hinder the formation of labourers union, ending contract system and outsourcing of industrial work.
