Police officials from Phulpur police station who had gone to investigate a case were in for a rude shock Thursday when angry supporters of the panchayat member of the area began pelting stones at them and vandalised the vehicle of the Circle Officer (CO) and injured at least five cops on duty. Heavy police force was deployed after the incident and an FIR was registered against the assailants.
It began after Rajit Ram Yadav of Pratapur Khurd submitted an application at the police station Wednesday,alleging his house was vandalised by supporters of the panchayat member of the area Dharmendra Yadav.
Dharmendra and Rajit Rams family have been at loggerheads since June over the construction of a boundary wall that had encroached upon a village road.
On June 28,the two sides , led by Dharmendra and one Ayodhya Prasad (relative of Rajit Ram),came to blows and,Deep Chandra Yadav,belonging to Dharmendras family,sustained severe head injuries. He succumbed July 4,following which Ayodhya Prasads side was booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Four persons from his family were arrested,while others escaped.
Inspector (In-charge),Phulpur,Dinesh Kumar Yadav,said: Rajit Ram told the police that Dharmendra and his associates were trying to vandalise his house. CO and I reached the spot for further investigations. As soon as we began to question people,Dharmendras supporters began pelting stones at us,he said.
SP (Trans-Ganga),Shafique Ahmed,said: Dharmendras associates began pelting stones in which the rear glass of COs Bolero was broken. In an hour,I reached the spot with forces from other police stations,following which they retreated.
