A 40-year-old cook working at a food cart in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly was allegedly shot dead on Wednesday night by a customer who was unhappy with the taste of the kababs he was served and refused to pay for the meal.
The incident took place in Priyadarshni Nagar under the Prem Nagar police station limits. According to the police, two people drove to the stall in an SUV, ordered chicken and kababs and then refused to pay the bill of Rs 120, claiming the kababs were not good. This led to a heated argument between the stall owner and the men. The cook intervened and was shot in the head, a police officer said.
The police identified the deceased as Naseer Ahmad, who is survived by his wife and six-year-old daughter.

The food cart owner, Ankur Sabharwal, submitted a complaint to the police, based on which an FIR was registered at Prem Nagar police station. “I own a kabab and chicken corner near the BDA office. Naseer Ahmad, who was a resident of Jagatpur, used to work at my stall. On May 3 around 10.30 pm, two people came in a car…and ordered kababs and chicken. They started arguing over the taste of the food and started using abusive language. Both of them seemed inebriated. One of the persons suddenly shot my cook, and fled with the car,” Sabharwal said in his complaint.
“One of the accused fired a bullet into the head of the deceased. With the help of the car registration details, the two accused have been identified and they have been arrested,” Bareilly SP (City) Rahul Bhati said in a statement.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Naseer Ahmad’s brother Mohammad Nanhe said, “The customers ate the food and said, ‘Mazaa nahi aaya (they didn’t enjoy it)’. The only issue was that the accused were asked to pay for their food.”
