The Central Bureau of Investigation,which is investigating several high-profile cases in the state,owes more than Rs 1.75 crore as rent to the UP governments Estate Department. The department has approached the Principal Secretary (Home) for getting the dues cleared.
According to the department,the CBI has to pay a total of Rs 94.58 lakh for the rooms it has in Dalibaghs VIP Guest House,Rs 13.58 lakh for rooms in Vikramaditya Marg Guest House and nearly Rs 8 lakh for two flats in Dalibagh.
We had informed our senior officials and a letter by Anita Singh,Secretary to CM,has been sent in this regard to Principal Secretary (Home). The dues have reached nearly Rs 1.75 crore and we have not received a single penny, Estate Officer Raj Kishore Yadav said.
Yadav said that presently the CBI has in its possession 17 rooms covering nearly the entire second floor of VIP Guest House at Dalibagh,five rooms in Vikramaditya Marg Guest House and two flats in Dalibagh.
This does not include the latest rental amount of rooms in possession of CBI officials investigating NRHM,CMO murder cases,etc, said an official.
The CBI teams started visiting Lucknow in connection with the investigation into the demolition of the disputed structure in Ayodhya in 1992. At that time,CBI officials were allotted 10 rooms in the VIP Guest House at Dalibagh. These remained in the possession of the CBI till 2002 while the rent accumulated to Rs 13.45 lakh.
Another Room-210 was occupied by an SP from March 20,1998 till April 30,1998. An amount of Rs 6.32 lakh has accrued as rental for this room. Thus a total of Rs 19.78 lakh is pending for these rooms.
The CBI team probing the high-profile Madhumita Shukla murder case was allotted four rooms in VIP Guest House,Dalibagh,on June 24,2003. Former minister Amarmani Tripathi and his wife Madhumani were chargesheeted in this case. These rooms were vacated on January 24,2010. The total rental for the period is Rs 45.84 lakh.
CBI teams were also allotted rooms while they were investigating a case related to Sunni Central Board of Waqf versus Gopal Singh Visharad. The total rental on these rooms is Rs 3.75 lakh. One of the rooms is locked and still in possession of the CBI.
