Rape accused ‘shot dead’, minor victim’s father, relative detained in Bareilly

The incident happened when the accused was sitting outside his house, while his family members were on the terrace, officers said. The family has alleged that the father of the rape victim was behind the crime.

“We are collecting evidence and examining the roles of the rape victim’s father and his relative in the case,” said a senior police officer, adding that no arrest has been made yet.

The police said that on Tuesday, they were informed that a man had been shot dead and his family had brought the body to the hospital, where the doctors declared him dead on arrival. A police team reached the hospital and took possession of the body.

His family alleged that the rape victim’s father approached him and allegedly opened fire. Upon hearing the gunshots, the family members reached the spot. The family claimed to have seen two men fleeing the spot, police said.

Police found that that the man had been booked in 2018 for allegedly raping a minor girl. He was arrested and sent to jail. After his release, he went to Delhi and had returned home to Bareilly a few months ago, police said.
