A 38-YEAR-OLD labourer allegedly killed his wife and two minor sons before hanging himself from a tree near his house at Devdih village in Ballia, police said on Monday. A suicide note has been recovered, they added.

The police identified the deceased as Shrawan, his wife Shashikala (32) and their sons, aged seven years and four months. Police said that in the note, Shrawan admitted to have killed his wife and children and then ended his life over a “family dispute.”

The bodies of the woman and two minor children had injuries inflicted using a sharp-edged weapon, the police said, adding that the postmortem reports are awaited.

According to the police, on Sunday night they were informed by Shashikala’s brother Ankit, who lives in Dhodhva village in Ballia, that his sister and her family members were missing from their residence located in Devdih village.

Ankit told the police that he came to Devdih village after a local resident called him and claimed that Shrawan beat up Shashikala over some family dispute.

A police team reached the spot and launched a search operation. “Some distance from the house, we found Shrawan’s body hanging from a tree.

In the suicide note, Shrawan stated no one else should be held responsible and also admitted to have killed his wife and two children before ending his life.

During a preliminary inquiry, the police came to know that there were frequent arguments between Shrawan and his wife over a long period of time. They had also filed a case for separation in the court. Shashikala was living with her parents for the past six years.

Over a year ago, after the intervention of some relatives, Shashikala returned home and started living with her husband. However, after a few months, Shrawan and Shashikala again started
fighting frequently, said a police officer.
