Talented athlete Geeta Rai clocked 4:48.26 seconds to bag the top honours in the 1500m race event in the state level womens athletics meet which commenced at the KD Singh Babu Stadium,Lucknow on Sunday.

Talented athlete Geeta Rai clocked 4:48.26 seconds to bag the top honours in the 1500m race event in the state level womens athletics meet which commenced at the KD Singh Babu Stadium,Lucknow on Sunday.

The state level womens badminton competition is being organised at UP Badminton Academy,Gomti Nagar. Second round matches in the singles and doubles events were organised on Sunday. The meet,which is being organised by the the Regional Sports Office,Lucknow,was inaugurated by secretary UP Badminton Association Dr Vijai Sinha. International athlete Gulab Chand gave away the prizes to the winners of the days athletics events.

The Results:800m Race: 1st. Chinta Yadav (Lko),2nd. Monika Singh (Bly),3rd. Archana Sharma (Lko); 4x400m relay: 1st. Lucknow,2nd Bareilly,3rd. Varanasi; Long jump: 1st. Pooja Singh (Lko),2. Arti Kushwaha (Aligarh),3rd. Kulwanti (Azm); Shot put: 1st. Ambey Yadav (Allahabad),2nd. Shailja Yadav (Ald),3rd. Savita Yadav (Vns); 400m hurdles: 1st. Shiva (Lko),2nd. Meenu Nirwal (Lko),3rd. Praveena Tiwari (Gkp); 1500m race: 1st. Geeta Rai (Azm),2nd. Poonam Singh (Lko),3rd. Archana Pal (Lko); 200m race: 1st. Alvina Khan (Lko),2nd. Sheetal Yadav ( Bly),3rd. Vibha Singh (Vns).

Zia,Yogendra to lead
As per a press release from Uttar Pradesh Twenty-20 Cricket Association,Zia Khursheed will be leading the UP twenty20 team in the Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel national twenty20 cricket tournament to be held at Punjab from September 29 while Yogendra Yadav will lead the team in the North Zone day-night twenty20 cricket tourney to be held at Haryana from October 3.

UPSA officials selected
Five members of the UP Swimming Association (UPSA) have been selected for officiating in the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2010. As per the information received from UPSA,Ravin Kapoor and SS Dutta will be the technical officials in the swimming,Sudhir Sharma of UP Police will be the technical official in the diving event. Ravindra Sonkar and Prakash Awasthi will be the special volunteers in the Commonwealth Games.
