Sanjeev Baliyan.
Yet another FIR was lodged against Union Minister of State for Agriculture Sanjeev Baliyan in Sambhal district for allegedly calling cabinet minister Azam Khan a ‘terrorist’ while addressing a gathering at Amroha on December 21.
With this, eight FIRs have been filed against Baliyan — the BJP MP from Muzaffarnagar — in the last 10 days. Earlier, five cases were registered in Rampur and one each in Moradabad and Rampur districts.
The new FIR was lodged by Sambhal district president of Mulayam Singh youth brigade, Chowdhary Mubashir Ali, at the City Kotwali police station Wednesday. The case has been registered under section 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion) and 500 (punishment for defamation) of the IPC.
Kotwali SHO Anil Kumar Mishra said for investigation purpose, the case was being transferred to Amroha.
When contacted, Ali said, “I got the case lodged after coming to know through a newspaper that Baliyan had said that Azam Khan was not less than a terrorist. The statement against Azam Khan has hurt me and other Muslims because Azam Khan is leader of the Muslim community”.
