BEFORE AND after the “pran prathistha” (consecration) of the Lord Ram idol at the Ram temple in Ayodhya in January next year, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has prepared an extensive three-month programme to first reach out to temples and villages across the country with “akshat invitation” from Ram Lalla, asking them to celebrate the consecration and then organise region-wise visits to the newly constructed temple after consecration from different parts of the country between January 26 and February 22.

“Akshat” is rice mixed with turmeric or kumkum for Puja rituals. The organisation has formed teams that are scheduled to reach Ayodhya next month to collect Akshat and then launch an outreach programe across villages, asking residents to become part of “pran pratistha” from their respective places by organising prayers at local temples and lighting diyas in the evenings.
Later, after the consecration ceremony in January, a date would be allotted to each region between January 26 and February 22 to visit and offer prayers at the temple in groups and arrangement for their stay would be made in Ayodhya, sources in the VHP said.

“As many as 45 prant units have been formed to take Akshat invitation to different parts of the country. On November 5, all these units will reach Ayodhya from different parts of the country to take the Akshat on which prayers have been performed. They will distribute it to their local units,” said Sharad Sharma, a VHP leader in Ayodhya.

Sharma informed that as per the plan, from January 1 to January 15, Akshat would be taken to local temples along with an invitation in the local language and workers would take this ‘Akshat’ to house-holds extending invitation on behalf of Ram Lalla.

“There would first be Akshat pujan before the Ram Lalla and each unit would take around 5 kg of Akshat and distribute it in their districts and grassroot level committees,” said Sharma, adding, “The teams visiting houses would carry “Akshat” invitation asking them to first celebrate Pran pratistha from their respective temples and houses at the same time as it is being done in Ayodhya and then light diyas at their households and temples later in the day,”

He said separate date would be set for each unit to come with “Ram bhakts” from their respective regions and offer prayers at the temple on the allotted dates from January 26 to February 22.

Meanwhile sources informed that for accommodation of a large number of pilgrims expected to visit Ayodhya after the pran pratistha in January, construction of tent city has begun. The tent city will come up over 25 acres and would accommodate around 25,000 pilgrims. Sources added that special arrangements were also being made for around 4,000 priests that are expected to visit Ayodhya from different parts of the country and abroad.
