Absconding ex-acting chief of IERT held in Rs 15-cr fraud case

Singh had allegedly misappropriated money to the tune of Rs 15 crore and was dismissed in December 2013.

Former acting director of the state-run Institute of Engineering and Rural Technologies (IERT), P K Singh, has been arrested by the Allahabad police on various charges of fraud, embezzlement and cheating during his six-year tenure, police said Monday. Singh had allegedly misappropriated money to the tune of Rs 15 crore and was dismissed in December 2013.

According to the police, Singh was arrested by a joint team of the Colonelganj police and the Crime Branch from Katra area under Colonelganj police station on Sunday. He was produced before a court, which sent him to jail.

The FIR against Singh had been registered at Colonelganj police station on December 29, 2013, pertaining to fraud, cheating, embezzlement and misappropriation, following completion of a departmental inquiry against him. The investigations had been transferred to the Crime Branch.
