The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) claimed to have arrested seven members of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) on Monday.
Those arrested include: Balraj alias BR (51) of Chhapra (Bihar),Shivraj Singh alias Arjun (66) of Almora (Uttarakhand),Chintan alias Banshidhar Singh alias Marx alias Osho (64) of East Champaran (Bihar),Naveen Prasad Singh alias Ashok of Patna (Bihar),Ambrish (40) of Banka (Bihar),Deepak (24) of Samastipur (Bihar),Rajendra Kumar Phulara (33) of Almora (Uttaranchal) and Kripa Shanker alias Manoj (35) of Kushinagar district,Uttar Pradesh.
DGP Karamvir Singh said the arrests were made on information provided by the three CPI (Maoist) members Asha alias Heeraman Munda,Seema Azad and Vishwavijay Azad alias Kamaljit who were arrested from Gorakhpur and Allahabad on Saturday.
The activists had come to Kanpur from Bihar,Uttaranchal and Kushinagar district of UP for a meeting that was scheduled to be held at Shivrajs residence in Naubasta,Kanpur,at 10.30 am on Monday,said a senior police officer.
Shivraj is a member of the Uttar Bihar,Uttar Pradesh,Uttarakhand Special Area Committee (USAC) and was responsible for getting Naxal literature published.
Balraj,also known as Arvind alias Bachcha Prasad Koiri,is Ashas husband. Their son,Sidhhant,studies in Maharana Pratap Inter College in Gorakhpur city. Asha was arrested when she came to meet her son in Gorakhpur,said the officer,adding that the couple had been active in the organisation (CPI-Maoist) since 1992.
Chintan,meanwhile,reportedly told the STF that he completed his MPhil and PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University and was expecting a nomination as head of the USAC. He had been jailed earlier in two separate cases in west Champaran district of Bihar in 2006 and was out on bail for the last one year.
Naveen was a member of the Bihar zonal committee and coordinator of the Mazdoor Sangharsh Sabha. Ambrish was a member of the zonal committee and Uttar Pradesh State Organising Committee (UPSOC) of the party while Kripa Shanker was also a zonal committee member and technical expert of USAC.
While Rajendra was the mediator between Kobad Gandhi and Balraj,Deepak played the same role for Balraj and another Bihar-based politburo member Kishan Dada,said the DGP.
The DGP said that the CPI (Maoist) had divided the organisation in three parts for propagating its ideology. The 3-USAC works in the area beyond river Ganga while the areas of Western-Central and Western-Southern are under the UPSOC. The Mirzapur,Chandauli and Sonbhadra districts are under the Bihar-Jharkhand Special Area Committee,said the DGP.
He added that the office bearers and activists were planning to strengthen the organisation along the Nepal border in UP,he said.
