5 students booked for repeatedly slapping a collegegoer in Lucknow
Complaint filed more than a week after alleged incident took place; police to probe what led to the slapping.

Five students of a private university in Lucknow have been booked after a video surfaced on Friday showing a woman and a man repeatedly slapping a student from the same university inside a car.
The police have booked the five students, including the woman seen in the video, on charges of voluntarily causing hurt, rioting, mischief, criminal intimidation, among others.
No one has been arrested so far.
According to police, the incident took place on August 26, but the victim’s father lodged the complaint late Friday night after the video went viral. The complainant’s son is pursuing a law degree at the same university where the accused are enrolled, said police.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Lucknow) Vinay Kumar Dwivedi said, “The incident arose from a dispute between the students.”
A police officer involved in the probe said the complainant did not explain the reason behind the slapping incident. “The police investigation will also try to determine what led the accused to slap the student.”
In the nearly 2-minute-long video, a woman and four youths are seen along with the complainant’s son. The victim is seen seated in the rear seat flanked by two youths, while a woman and a man, in the front part of the car, are seen repeatedly slapping the student and hurling abuses at him. The fifth student is behind the victim, recording the incident.
In the complaint to the police, the victim’s father said that his son had gone to the university with a friend in a four-wheeler. While they were parking the car, the accused approached and, under the pretext of talking, got into the car. They spoke to the victim for around 45 minutes, during which they allegedly threatened and abused him. The complainant stated that the victim did not resist, as he had undergone surgery on his left leg in June and was using a walking stick on the doctor’s advice.
The complainant alleged that when his son asked them to let him go as he was getting delayed for his class, two of them slapped him repeatedly, “around 50–60 times”.
Two other students, according to the complaint, recorded the incident and broke the victim’s cellphone after deleting his chats.
“As his son was leaving the car, the accused students threatened him, warning that if he came to college again, he would be beaten up again,” a police officer said, quoting the complainant, who has demanded strict action against the accused and removal of the viral video from social media.
