3 cops hurt as mobs clash during Holi procession

Three policemen including Sub-Inspector Umesh Shankar Sharma were injured

Three policemen including Sub-Inspector Umesh Shankar Sharma were injured when two groups clashed during a Holi procession in Lucknow’s Itaunja police station area on Sunday afternoon. The two other police personnel who were injured during the clash were Head Constable Vishwanath and Constable Sheesh Pal Singh.

The large groups which indulged in violence set on fire three vehicles and four roadside stalls. Teams from other police stations and PAC were rushed to the spot of violence to disperse the mobs and fire tenders were pressed into the service to douse the flames.

According to Station Officer,Itaunja,Shashi Kumar Pandey,clashes broke out when some members of the procession chanted some slogans that hurt the sentiments of the bystanders.

Hearing about the incident,a police team rushed to the place and tried to pacify both groups. The mobs pelted stones on them in which policemen got injured.

A case has been lodged against 300 persons under various sections of IPC including attempt to murder at the Itaunja police station. Of the six persons named in the FIR,the police have arrested Munna Gupta and Akeel. The four other accused Bhola Verma,Vikky,Kapil and Kaleem are absconding.

“We are verifying the identity of the others involved in the arson,” said Pandey.
