2 minors among six held for Dalit woman’s gangrape in Ayodhya

Six persons, including two minors, have been arrested in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 20-year-old Dalit woman in Ayodhya, police said.
The complainant, an undergraduate student who works as cleaning staff at a temple, has alleged that the accused molested and raped her on multiple occasions at different places last month. The woman’s medical examination has been conducted, but some reports are awaited, officials said.
“Of the six arrested accused, three persons, a minor included, have been accused of gang rape, while the rest are accused of molestation,” said the station house officer of the police station concerned.
The woman had on September 2 lodged an FIR alleging that the accused kidnapped her and took her to different guest houses and hotels on separate occasions and sexually assaulted her.
She had named seven people and two unidentified persons in the case. She also recorded her statement before a magistrate.
“The identity of the seventh person is unclear and those arrested do not have information about him. The investigation is going on,” said a senior police officer.
Of the six arrested, four belong to the Dalit community, he added. The two minors arrested have been lodged in a juvenile home after the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act was invoked against them. “The victim stated that the accused held her captive and repeatedly threatened her, taking her to other locations as well,” said police.
