2 arrested for ‘cow slaughter, buffalo theft’ after encounters in Meerut

The alleged cow slaughter incident took place at Mubarikpur village in the Mawana area of the district recently.

PassportCentral Noida Deputy Commissioner of Police Shakti Mohan Awasthy said, “The matter came to light when the Bisrakh police went to verify passport applications of S Vinod Kumar and Sanjid Dey, originally from Andaman and Nicobar Islands.”

Two persons were arrested on charges of cow slaughter and stealing buffaloes after separate brief encounters in Meerut district, police said.

The alleged cow slaughter incident took place at Mubarikpur village in the Mawana area of the district recently.

Mawana police station incharge Pramod Kumar said the arrested accused, Aamir, was injured in firing and was admitted to a hospital in Meerut. A total of five persons were booked in connection with the case. A search is on for those absconding, he added.

Meerut Superintendent of Police (Rural) Rakesh Kumar Mishra said, “After being arrested, the accused snatched the service weapon of a sub-inspector and fired at the police team. He, however, was nabbed after cross-firing.”

In the other case, the police claimed to have received a tip-off that some persons at Bhawanpur village were trying to transport stolen buffalo to other districts.

During a checking drive, the police spotted a Tata Magic and when the driver was questioned, he told police that he was waiting for his associates who had gone to nearby fields to bring stolen animals. On this, the police challenged the men who opened fire at the police, it was alleged.

“One Ehsan, alias Hakla was arrested while his two other accomplices fled. Hakla opened fire at the police team and was injured in the return fire. He has been admitted to a hospital. The police have recovered two buffaloes, a country-made pistol and other devices from the spot,” said Superintendent of Police Mishra.

Bhawanpur police station in-charge Dharmendra Singh said, “The accused has been arrested under Sections 109 (1)(offence of attempted murder), 3/5 (criminal liability) and 317 (stolen property) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
