13-year-old strangles 2 younger sisters in UP’s Bijnor: ‘My family was big. I had to do all domestic chores’

The Bijnor police said they are probing the murders of the two minor girls further and necessary legal action will be taken once the investigation is completed.

A 13-year-old girl allegedly strangled her two stepsisters, aged 5 and 7, while the family was asleep at their one-room rented house late on Thursday night in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor district.

Neeraj Kumar Jadaun, Superintendent of Police (SP), Bijnor, said a team reached the spot after getting information that two minor girls had been found dead in a house at the Gohawar Jait village.

“We interrogated the 13-year-old and she confessed to killing her sisters but we are probing further. Necessary legal action will be taken once our probe is completed. Our primary investigation revealed that there were no signs of forcible entry into their one-room house,” said Jadaun.

According to the police, the girl told them she killed her sisters because theirs was a large family —  her mother had six children from two marriages. “My father used to be worried all the time because of our family size and I had to do all the domestic chores as my mother was very ill,” she told the police.

Sanjeev Bajpai, SP (City), said the children’s father works at a local brick kiln.
