In a bizarre incident,a 12-year-old girl was mercilessly beaten by a mob,which accused her of performing human sacrifice,and then booked by the police on the charge of murdering her four-year-old nephew in Narsena area of Bulandshahr district on Thursday night.

The police have not registered any case of assault on the girl,not to talk of arresting anyone. The girl,who is unconscious,is undergoing medical treatment in a local hospital.

The girl,Deepti,had been staying alone since her parents Prahlad and Pushpa were arrested on January 23 for allegedly killing a five-year-old girl while performing black magic.

Bulandshahr SSP Neelesh Kumar said four-year-old Sachin of Chandyana village had been missing since around 4 pm on Thursday.

Sachins father Babli and others went searching for the boy and found his body bundled in a gunny bag in Prahlads house.

Since Deepti alone was in the house,the family believed she had killed the boy. They,along with other neighbours,then beat up the girl,leaving her unconscious.

The SSP said the boy had been strangled to death and a piece of saree was found around his neck. The boys face was smeared with vermilion. He said the circumstantial evidence showed the girls involvement.

The police would interrogate the girl after she gains consciousness,the SSP added.
