Twelve persons were injured after a group of traders agitating against price rise clashed with Minister of State for Coal (Independent Charge) Sriprakash Jaiswal and other Congress leaders on Friday.

The traders,it is learnt, wanted to hand over a memorandum against price rise to Jaiswal, but got into a scuffle with Congress activists following a heated argument.

Jaiswal was, however, safe. Reacting to the incident, the minister alleged that the Uttar Pradesh government was the main culprit behind price rise as the Centre had issued enough grains, sugar, coal and other essential commodities for the state.

“The state government must now answer why the prices of essential commodities are rising,” Jaiswal said. District Congress president of Faizabad Rajendra Singh claimed that the group of traders belonged to the BSP.
