West Bengal Police arrest 1 for ‘promising’ to leak HS question papers

The West Bengal Police recently arrested a person for allegedly promising to leak question papers of the ongoing higher secondary examination conducted by the state board.

The accused, Rupam Sadhukhan, was nabbed from his native village of Goribpur in Nadia district. The police said they were carrying out further investigation into the matter to uncover the entire network.

A complaint in this regard was submitted by Prof (Dr) Chiranjib Bhattacharya, the president of the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education.

According to the complainant, he received some screenshots of Telegram groups wherein unidentified persons promised to share question papers for the HS exam in exchange for money. The criminals also shared some QR codes to make payments.

After an initial inquiry, two bank accounts could be traced from those QR codes. One of those is a PNB account in the name of a girl in Nadia’s Habibpur. When the girl was contacted, she claimed that her friend Rupam Sadhukan forcibly took away her ATM card. She further said that she noticed several transactions were carried out through her account as she received numerous SMS alerts on her mobile number registered with the said account.

The accused has been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including cheating, fraud, and cheating by personation.
