Congress MP Adhir Chowdhury has written to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee urging her to help the family of a jawan who was killed in a Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh on October 30.

Mir Matur Rahman was accompanying the Doordarshan crew that had gone to Dantewada for election coverage. He was killed in an ambush when Maoists fired at the crew and CRPF personnel. A cameraman of the channel was also killed in the attack. In his letter, Adhir asked Mamata to provide employment for Rahman’s daughter.

“The deceased was the sole earning member of the family and left behind his wife, daughter, son and other family members. My sincere request to you to rescue the family of this situation by extending employment to the daughter of the deceased,” said the letter dated October 30.

Adhir also visited Rahman’s home at Sagardighi in Murshidabad district and assured his family members of support.

“We condemn the way he was killed in crossfire. My condolences to the family members. The state government must help this family as the jawan was the sole earning member. We will extend our helping hand to the family as well,” the MP said.
