A traffic constable Wednesday alleged that Trinamool Congress MP and former Indian football team captain Prasun Banerjee had slapped him for sticking to rules, a charge which the latter denied. The incident took place Wednesday evening at the Lake Town flyover in Bidhannagar. The traffic constable, who was not willing to be named, stopped the MP’s vehicle when it tried to take a wrong U-turn. “The car (Banerjee’s) wanted to take the wrong route and tried to forcibly enter the road. As I asked the driver to wait for a while, he refused to listen and told me to call anybody I wanted to,” the constable from the Bidhannagar Police Commissionarete told a vernacular news channel. “When I said that I will note down the car’s number, he (driver) called Banerjee. The MP said do you know what you are saying and then slapped me,” the constable, posted at Lake Town area, alleged. However, the officer in-charge of Lake Town police station Supriyo Das said no such incident had occurred and no complaint has been registered in connection with the alleged incident. The MP, however, denied the allegation saying “Prasun Banerjee has never indulged in any such activity and will not ever do also.” “I had only requested him that I be allowed to go as I had an important meeting to attend. The constable shouted that I will not be allowed whatever the reason may be and whether I am an MP or not,” the former soccer star claimed. Banerjee also claimed that the constable’s colleagues present there told him that he was a mental patient.
