Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Gulsan Mullick was attacked today when he visited his constituency,Panchla in Howrah,after the third phase of polling.
Mullick alleged that Congress and CPM men hurled bombs at his vehicle. He received minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital where he was released after first-aid,he added.
Sources in the police said Mullick,along with his security guards and a group of TMC men,visited Maulabi para village this morning when he got involved in a tiff with Congress supporters of the village. His security guards fired four rounds to disperse the villagers when the latter began hurling bombs at them,sources added.
Mullick said: The Congress and CPM have joined hands in the area and have been trying to kill me since long. Today,when I went to visit the Maulabi para village to meet my workers,the CPM and Congress men surrounded my vehicle. They started hurling bombs . To protect me,my security guards fired four rounds. One of the security guards has been injured in the attack. We have lodged an FIR with the Panchla police station. Law will take its own course.
Meanwhile,senior CPM leader of the district Biplab Majumdar alleged that a villager sustained bullet injury when Mullicks security guard fired.
Majumdar added it were the TMC and the Congress men who clashed in the area while the CPM had no role in the incident.
Congress leader in the area Quaji Rezzak Mollah,however,said Mullick was terrorising villagers,who resisted when the TMC MLAs guard opened fire at them. A villager sustained bullet injury and he has been admitted to a local hospital,he added.
In another incident,miscreants torched the houses of CPM supporters in Domjur area in Howrah today.
