Welcoming the arrest of Sujay Krishna Bhadra by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the alleged school recruitment scam, the Opposition parties on Wednesday said that the probe has now reached the doorstep of Trinamool Congress MP and party’s Number 2 Abhishek Banerjee.
Bhadra, who is known as “Kalighat’er Kaku”, is considered a close aide of Abhishek Banerjee, the nephew of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
“The long arm of the law is finally reaching towards the masterminds and the biggest beneficiaries. No one will be spared. The high and mighty will go to jail. Time is ticking,” BJP MLA and Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari tweeted soon after Bhadra’s arrest late Tuesday night.
“Sujay Krishna Bhadra is the CEO of Leaps and Bounds Pvt Ltd company. Directors of this company are close relatives of the Chief Minister (Mamata Banerjee). That means the chief minister and her family members are associated with this scam,” Adhikari alleged, adding: “The investigation has reached the heart. Very soon, it will drag ear and head also.”
“The chief minister is the queen of thieves. Under her shelter and indulgence, thieves are doing hooliganism in the state. This should end,” the BJP MLA from Nandigram added.
The Congress, too, also directed the charge at Abhishek, calling him “Khokababu” and said the day is not far when “top TMC leaders will be behind bars”.
“The people of the state say that the name is Sujoy Krishna Bhadra, then why was he called Kaku of Kalighat? When there is an uncle, surely there is also a nephew? He must have been an influential person or figure known as ‘Kaku’ for a long time. His friends call him Kaku. Kaku worked under whose direction? Who are the beneficiaries of this scam? The ED along with the people of the state is now looking for answers to these questions,” state Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said.
“Kakababu was arrested by ED, what will happen to Khokababu? Now it’s Khokababu’s turn,” he added.
CPI(M) leader Sujan Chakraborty said, “If a worker of the company (Bhadra) has this huge property, then what does his boss have? People want to know. We are saying that the ED and CBI are not arresting the main culprits. We demand the arrest of the main culprits.”
The Trinamool Congress declined to react to the arrest but wondered whether the arrest was a part of diverting attention from the political narrative of lone Congress MLA Bayron Biswas joining the TMC.
