Even as mystery shrouds the murder of four bank employees by around 15-odd miscreants in Karimpur in Nadia on Friday, the CID team investigating the case has ruled out robbery as intention behind murder and said the killings were planned.

The sleuths found an open cupboard containing nearly Rs 3 lakh even as its locks were intact.

“The cupboard was open when miscreants entered the bank. Initially,we suspected that they barged into the bank for cash and searched for the keys, failing which they killed the employees. On finding the cupboard open and cash intact,we ruled out the possibility of robbery as a possible motive,” said a senior CID officer.

“According to the investigations so far,it seems the miscreants, around 15 in number, entered the bank premises with the intention of murder,” said the officer.

He added: “We have spoken to the local people and examined the bodies. Our forensic team was also present on the spot. From the wounds inflicted,it can be ascertained that the employees were murdered by hired and professional killers. We have found nearly 4-inch-deep cuts on the throats.”

Senior officers of the district police, meanwhile, refuse to accept the theory that the murders were executed by Maoists or Bangladeshi intruders.

“Investigations hint towards the involvement of locals and the bank employees may have been killed for revenge. It is clear to us that the miscreants were not unknown to the victims,” said a senior officer of the district police.
