Priyangu Pandey attack case: NIA names 4 more in third supplementary chargesheet

According to the NIA, the four newly named accused were actively involved in the criminal conspiracy and execution of the attack using explosives and firearms

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has chargesheeted four more accused individuals in connection with the 2024 mob attack on Priyangu Pandey in Bhatpara, West Bengal, officials said on Tuesday.

In its third supplementary chargesheet filed before the NIA Special Court in Kolkata on Monday, the agency named Pious Prasad alias Sujal, Md. Tipu alias Tipua, Mohit Mahato alias Sahi, and Md. Javed alias Anda. They have been charged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Arms Act, and the Explosive Substances Act.

“With this, a total of 18 accused have been chargesheeted so far, of whom 17 have been arrested and one remains absconding,” the NIA said in a statement.

According to the NIA, the four newly named accused were actively involved in the criminal conspiracy and execution of the attack using explosives and firearms near Gate No. 3 of the Anglo-India Jute Mill staff quarters in the Bhatpara police station area.

The incident occurred on August 28, 2024, when Priyangu Pandey and his team were en route to the residence of former MP Arjun Singh.

The convoy was ambushed by a mob of about 50-60 people near the mill quarters. In the attack Pandey’s driver, Ravi Verma, and his close aide, Rabi Singh, sustained gunshot injuries in the attack.

The investigation into the case is ongoing.
