According to sources, a retired professor has filed the PIL before the Division Bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam and Justice Hiranmay Bhattacharyya. It has been learnt that both Governor Bose and the West Bengal government have been made parties to the PIL.
The High Court is likely to hear the matter next Monday.
Last Thursday, Governor Bose, in his capacity as chancellor of all the state universities, appointed interim V-Cs to 11 universities after the incumbents completed their extended tenures. The state government, however, reacted strongly to the Governor’s decision, calling it “unilateral” and “illegal”.
