Criticising actor and BJP candidate Kangana Ranaut for saying that Subhas Chandra Bose, and not Jawaharlal Nehru, was the country’s first prime minister, Netaji’s grandnephew Chandra Kumar Bose on Tuesday said that no one should distort history for their political ambition.
“Kangana Ranaut is a talented actor but when she is making a comment from history, then she must do some study. Netaji should not be drawn into a political slugfest in the current-day politics. I get the impression that Netaji is being used as a political tool,” Chandra Kumar Bose told mediapersons.
Ranaut, who has been fielded by the BJP from the Mandi Lok Sabha seat in Himachal Pradesh, had recently told a TV news channel that Netaji was the first prime minister of independent India, triggering online backlash.
Sharing a screenshot of a news article on X, which said that Netaji formed the provisional government of Azad Hind in Singapore in 1943 and declared himself as the first prime minister, Ranaut doubled down on her claim.
Chandra Kumar Bose then said: “Nehru was the first prime minister of the dominion of India after the partition of Bengal and Punjab. This is history. No one can change it. Subhas Chandra Bose was the first and last PM of undivided and united India. He was elected PM of Azad Hind, the government in exile that was formed in Singapore on October 21, 1943.”
“If Kangana Ranaut really wants to show respect to Netaji, she must follow his inclusive ideology to unite all communities as Bharatiyas. He was the only leader who could unite all communities to fight for India’s freedom. Shun divisive/communal politics,” Bose, who resigned from the BJP last September, posted on X.
Quitting the BJP last year amid the India vs Bharat row, Bose said that his ideals no longer aligned with the party.
