According to Ghosh’s complaint, Mondal and his partner then asked them to get into their car. After taking the cash, they dropped off Ghosh and his brother-in-law and fled. Ghosh filed a police complaint next day.

Mondal was arrested under sections 120 B (criminal conspiracy), 419 (cheating by personation), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of IPC. Police also recovered Rs 20 lakh in cash from his residence. “We are interrogating the accused and victims as well since it includes a huge amount. The statement of the complainant is also suspicious,” said an official.
