On the run,Saradha top official arrested

AFTER evading arrest for over a month and half,Arindam Das alias Bumba,a top official of Saradha Group who was in charge of the company's operations in South 24-Parganas district,was arrested from Bheri area on Eastern Bypass.

AFTER evading arrest for over a month and half,Arindam Das alias Bumba,a top official of Saradha Group who was in charge of the company’s operations in South 24-Parganas district,was arrested from Bheri area on Eastern Bypass. He was produced at a Baruipur court on Sunday which remanded him in police custody till June 15.

Das,who had gone into hiding on April 15 after the chit fund company went bust,has been slapped with charges of cheating,money laundering and abetment of suicide,police said on Sunday.

“Das was arrested while he was trying to escape,” said Additional SP (Rural),South 24-Parganas,Kankar Prasad Barui.

He allegedly swindled thousands of investors of South 24-Parganas district by not depositing the money in the head office of Saradha Group,sources said.

He supervised over 50 branches of the company across South 24-Parganas and Burdwan districts.

During interrogation,Saradha Group chairman Sudipta Sen alleged that Das,as the main official looking after the deposit of money from investors in the district,stole crore of rupees.

Das is also facing charges of abetment of suicide following a police complaint filed by Bhola Pramanik,whose mother Urmila,a resident of Baruipur,committed suicide by setting herself ablaze. She had deposited Rs 50,000 with the group.
