Following Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjees prescription for better police vigilance that would restore the credibility of the force,the Kolkata police in a day-long special drive on Friday rounded up 100 eve-teasers who were found disturbing women in the citys lanes and bylanes. However,all the 100 eve-teasers,who were picked up from several places of south and central Kolkata,were booked under weak charges and as a result were granted bail. In North 24-Parganas,the police have started conducting raids at places including Nimta,Ghola,New Barrackpore,Kharda,Belgharia,Botranagar,Dum Dum and Airport. Raids were conducted in the evening yesterday and today it started from 1 pm and it will go on till 9 pm. Yesterday we have arrested four persons. Today we are conducting raids at illegal liquor shops and hooch shops, said a senior police officer. Meanwhile,the police have started re-investigation into the molestation case at Baghajatin in Jadavpur after the West Bengal State Women Commission forced the police to slap serious sections like attempt to rape against the accused persons. The victim,Rupali Som,said: We want the police to act against the criminals. We do not know legal things. While she was asked that whether she wants the section of attempt to rape to be slapped against the accused,she said,I cannot comment on this. I was assaulted by them brutally. I dont know what section can be slapped. Murli Dhar,ASP,South 24-Parganas (industrial),today met the victim and later said: The victim has complained of getting threats from the culprits. Security guards will be provided to the family. The accused will be punished. Rupali,however,said that a rally with relatives and neighbours of the locality will go to Jadavpur police station and a deputation will be submitted.
