No end in sight to HC impasse

While the strike called by the employees of the Calcutta High Court demanding pay hike continued for the sixth day on Monday,efforts to break the deadlock yielded no positive outcome.

State Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta met Milan Mukherjee,president of the High Court Employees Welfare Union and reportedly sought two days time to decide on the employees’ demand.

Advocate Jayanta Mitra who had met Dasgupta said the impasse is unlikely to end before September 30.

“The strike will be called off if the government agrees to accept the recommendation of the pay committee in principle,” said Debabrata Chakraborty,General Secretary,High Court Officers Association.

The pay committee comprising three High Court judges had submitted its recommendation on pay revision to the state government on August 27.

Meanwhile,some advocates and litigants were able to enter the court’s premises after the administration opened a gate of the High Court building.
