ACTOR-POLITICIAN Mithun Chakraborty on Friday hit out at the TMC government in the state, saying that the “whole system has become corrupt”.
In an apparent jibe at the intellectuals of Bengal, Chakraborty also said, “Many souls have now been sold.”
Earlier Mithun Chakraborty campaigned for BJP in the run-up to the 2021 West Bengal election. However, in that election, the BJP was defeated. Before the panchayat election in West Bengal this year, Chakraborty sharply criticised the TMC after participating in an ABVP programme at Kolkata.
“Whenever the system has become corrupt, there have been mass movements. Nothing can happen in this state without mass movements,” said Chakraborty on Friday.
“I feel disappointed. I can’t seem to do anything for the state. When some incidents happened in Bengal, we woke up and protested against it. Now, those who are at the forefront of protests have sold
their souls,” he added.
Mithun said, “I don’t see any future for the state at the moment. If the future of the state is to be secured, change must be made. People will decide that. And if you say political party, then I will say — the BJP.”
Reacting to Chakraborty’s remarks, TMC state general secretary Kunal Ghosh said, “Mithunda is highly respected as an actor. But there is no one as treacherous as him. The one who once addressed Mamata as “sister” now
opposes her.” However, Chakraborty declined to comment on the ongoing protest by wrestlers in New Delhi. Asked about it, he said, “I have heard about this movement but I do not know the details.”
