Kolkata doctor rape-murder case highlights: The protesting junior doctors held a meeting on Tuesday to decide on their ongoing ‘cease work’ and protests demanding justice for the junior doctor, who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital last month. The governing body meeting of the doctors, started at 6:30 pm said one of the protesting doctors. “We are holding this meeting to decide on whether to continue with our ‘cease work’, as some of our demands have been fulfilled by the state government,” he said to news agency PTI.

Meanwhile, noting the Supreme Court has seen the CBI’s status report on its investigation into the RG Kar case, Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud remarked, “We have looked at the status report of CBI. Making a disclosure today about what CBI is doing will jeopardise the course of the investigation….You understand why we cannot also disclose the lines of the further investigation that CBI is conducting.”

In other news, in the first sign of a breakthrough, more than a month after protests began on August 9 over the rape and murder of the junior doctor, the West Bengal government on Tuesday named Manoj Kumar Verma as the new Kolkata Police Commissioner.
