The father of a student, who was allegedly gangraped at a Kolkata law college in June this year, has alleged that he is being threatened and pressured to withdraw the case.
Speaking to The Indian Express, the student’s father said two men approached him on November 19 and threatened him with “dire consequences” if he didn’t withdraw the case.
“I was returning home when I saw two persons on a motorbike following me. Initially, I did not pay heed. They were using foul language. Since neither was known to me, I paid no heed. But then they told me to withdraw the case, or else there would be dire consequences. It was then that I realised that it was related to my daughter’s case,” the student’s father said.
Police had arrested four persons in connection with the June 25 incident and submitted a chargesheet naming them in August.
Out of the four, only the security guard of the college – – 55-year-old Pinaki Banerjee – is out on bail. The other three in the jail are prime accused Monojit Mishra (31), a former contractual staffer at the college and a former TMC students’ wing functionary, students Zaib Ahmed (19) and Pramit Mukherjee (20).
Police said they have received a complaint from the woman student’s father. “We have received a complaint against unknown persons. We are conducting an inquiry into the matter,” said a police officer.
Till now, the family has not sought police protection. If required in the future, we will think about it,” the father said.
“We will not bow down to these threats. We will continue the fight. The administration is with us, and we have full faith in the police,” the father of the woman student said.
The Kolkata Police’s chargesheet has stated that forensic reports have corroborated the allegations made by the woman student and confirmed the involvement of the main accused, Monojit Mishra. The chargesheet has called the alleged rape “premeditated”.
