(File Photo)The police investigating the death of chartered accountant Adarsh Losalka at a hotel in the Rajdanga area of Kasba in Kolkata said on Sunday that his body was found naked, with his legs tied using a towel, and a deep gash on the back of his head, adding that several condoms were also recovered from the room.
Tracking the timeline using CCTV footage, the police said that Losalka, 33, who had booked two rooms online, entered the hotel around 8.30 pm on Friday, along with another man and a woman. While Losalka entered one room, the other two went to the other room. Around 9 pm, the man and woman went to Losalka’s room. They exited the room and left the hotel around 2.30 am.
Manoj Kumar Verma, Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, said on Sunday, “Investigations are on and we are trying to locate the other two persons who had accompanied him.”
The police suspect that Losalka had been hit from behind and strangled, but are awaiting the postmortem report.
“The victim’s mobile phone and wallet were missing. We think that the suspects have taken the wallet and mobile with them. We are checking whether money was withdrawn from Losalka’s bank account after the murder,” said a senior police officer.
Police sources said that Losalka’s social media accounts, including WhatsApp, had been deactivated after the murder.
The police, who have questioned the hotel staff, also said they were verifying the Aadhaar cards that the two suspects had submitted while checking in.
Speaking to the media on Sunday, Losalka’s father Bimal Kumar Losalka said, “My son loved to travel and was a very jolly person. He never had any enemies. On Friday, he spoke to me for two minutes and said he was out for work and would meet some friends. After that, we could not reach him. He had told me recently that he was getting a promotion and a raise, which some of his colleagues did not like. Otherwise, everything was fine.”
Losalka, whose body was recovered on Saturday afternoon from the hotel room, hailed from Dubrajpur in Birbhum. He worked in a private company in Kolkata and used to stay with his friends in a rented apartment in the city.
In October, the decomposed body of a man who had checked into a hotel on Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road in the city was found hidden under a bed after the next guest complained of an “unbearable stench”. The police then suspected that he had been killed by two men who had accompanied him while checking in.
On Sunday, Verma also said the police would prepare guidelines for hotels on how they should remain vigilant so that such incidents could be prevented in the future.
