Kolkata cop arrested for accepting bribe: Police

An assistant commissioner of police-rank official was arrested on Monday by Barrackpore police for allegedly accepting a bribe from a businessman in exchange for helping him procure a bar licence in Kolkata.

According to police, Somnath Bhattacharya, an assistant commissioner of police-rank officer, had been working with the Kolkata Police battalion.

Bhattacharya had allegedly taken money from a businessman to help him get a bar licence. However, Bhattacharya failed to arrange the licence and could not return the money to the businessman either.

Later, the businessman filed a complaint at Baranagar police station.

After a preliminary investigation, Bhattacharya was arrested on Monday.
