Another IT giant Infosys on Monday said its decision to invest in the state was still on hold. We have not yet heard from the state government and that is why we have not yet made any move to invest in the state, Binod Hampapur,Senior Vice-President and Global Head (Commercial and Corporate Relations) Infosys told The Indian Express from Bangalore. Infosys,too,has been seeking SEZ status for its proposed Rajarhat facility from the state government. However,the state government,as a last resort to retain the company,had requested the central governments Software Technology Park of India (STPI) to register the facility under it so that it could enjoy the related facilities. The STPI has not yet replied to the state governments request. STPI is a government agency established in 1991 under the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. It is an export-oriented scheme for development and export of computer software,including export of professional services. The STPI Scheme provides various benefits to registered units,which include 100 per cent foreign equity,tax incentives,duty free import,duty free indigenous procurement,CST reimbursement,DTA entitlement,deemed export,to name a few.
