High rises from where ‘stones were pelted’ under scanner

Officials said that the team has been directed to ensure a thorough investigation and find out what triggered the violence on both the days.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) which took over the probe in the violence that erupted Howrah district on Thursday and Friday has started examining footage and forensic samples collected from the affected areas, officials said on Sunday.

Officials said that the team has been directed to ensure a thorough investigation and find out what triggered the violence on both the days.

Sources added that the high rises from where stones were allegedly pelted during the violence have come under scanner. A special team led by Inspector General of Police, CID, Sunil Choudhury, has initiated its investigation.

“We have just taken up the case, it is too early to say anything. All samples and footage collected so far will be examined. Anyone who is found involved will be arrested,”said a CID official.
Sources said a 1,000 police officials who were a part of the Ram Navami processions on the Thursday will also be quizzed to find out the chronological order of the events that unfolded on both the days.

On Thursday, several vehicles were allegedly set on fire after two groups clashed in Howrah district during Ram Navami celebrations.

On Friday too, the area saw arson and violence following which internet connections were suspended and prohibitory orders were imposed. So far, 38 persons have been arrested.
