During the proceeding of the judicial commission,it was revealed on Thursday that personal security guard of CPM MLA Mostafa Bin Quasem had left the MLA’s room at 1.30 pm and returned to the hostel after getting a phone call from the MLA’s son about his death at 5 pm. The counsel of Quasem’s family alleged there was negligence on the part of the MLA’s personal security.

Quasem allegedly committed suicide jumping from the MLA hostel on May 29. The government has set up one-member judicial commission headed by Justice D P Sengupta, retired judge of the Calcutta High Court,to inquire into the MLA’s death.

On October 19,Justice Sengupta had visited the MLA hostel to inspect the spot of the incident. On Thursday,Maimur Hawk,Quasem’s personal security, appeared before the commission which recorded his statement.

Quasem was lodged in room number 411 on the fourth floor of the hostel but his body was found at about 4.45 pm on the roof of an old canteen located just beneath the balcony of room number 109.

According to the statement of Hawk,he left Quasem at 1.30 pm taking the MLA’s permission. Quasem had told him that he would call him if required. Hawk stated that Quasem was with his son Mausam and daughter-in-law,when he left the room. Following that,Hawk left the MLA hostel for having lunch and also sat at Eliot Park. Hawk returned to the hostel after her got a call from the son-in-law of Quasem at 5pm.

Kazi Safiullah, counsel of Quasem family, said Hawk failed to explain why he sat in the park during hot afternoon in May leaving the air-conditioned room in the MLA hostel. As a personal security,Hawk should have been with Quasem when he was suffering from depression from illness. Quasem was alone from 4 pm when his son and daughter-in-law left for Esplanade, said Safiullah. But his son returned to the hostel at 5pm and came to know about the death of Quasem.

Hawk today said that Mausam got the suicide note of Quasem from the room. Mausm handed it over to Hawk and the police received it from Hawk, said Kazi Saffiudin Ahmed, counsel of the state.
