Lakshman Seths bail plea rejected The Calcutta High Court on Friday rejected the bail plea of Lakshman Seth,former CPM MP of Tamluk who was arrested in March from Mumbai for his alleged involvement in the Nandigram violence of November 2007. Rejecting the bail petition,a division bench headed by Justice Ashim Kumar Roy said that material was available in the chargesheet against Seth. In the charge-sheet,the CID brought charges of criminal conspiracy against Seth in connection with seven persons missing from Nandigram since November 10,2007. AMRI director gets bail The Calcutta High Court on Friday granted anticipatory bail to Preeti Surekha,one of the directors of AMRI hospital who has been absconding since the fire incident on December 9,2011. The court granted her bail on the ground that she was not a member of the managing committee of the hospital,which administered the day-to-day affairs of the organisation. The court also observed that she only attended two board meetings in the last year. When Kolkata Police filed the charge-sheet after completion of investigation,no custodial interrogation was required for Surekah,said the court. Two other absconding directors,Rahul Todi and Aditya Bardhan Agarwal,also filed anticipatory bail pleas. State told to hire juvenile officers The Calcutta High Court on Friday asked the state government to recruit juvenile officers in the police station and district levels as per the Juvenile Act. The Division Bench said the state would have to notify for recruitment of juvenile officers and a report would be filed by June 8 on the action taken by the state in this matter.
