Court asks Burdwan college to allow 47 students take exams

The Calcutta High Court on Thursday directed the West Bengal University of Technology to allow the students of Sanaka Engineering College in Burdwan district to appear in the semester examination starting from Friday.

The Calcutta High Court on Thursday directed the West Bengal University of Technology to allow the students of Sanaka Engineering College in Burdwan district to appear in the semester examination starting from Friday. Delivering the order,Justice Tapen Sen directed the university to issue the admit cards to the students at the earliest.

The West Bengal University had not issued the admit cards to 47 students on the ground the engineering college had failed to deposit the examination fees of those students in time. On Thursday,Justice Sen said the University should allow the students take the exam.

Sanaka Engineering College,located at Kanksha in Burdwan,had in a notification,asked the students to pay examination fees by October 18. But the Technology university had set October 19 as deadline for depositing the students’ fees. Though the students paid the fees in time,the college missed the deadline for depositing the fees.

Arguing on the petition,advocate Biswapriya Samanta pleaded the college officials could not reach Kolkata in time because of traffic congestion at the G T Road.

After 47 students were not issued admit cards by the university,a petition was moved in the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday,said Samanta. On Thursday,the court ordered the authorities to allow the students by accepting their delayed payment but also cautioned the college to be careful in future.
