In a show of strength, the Congress party on Friday rallied hundreds of men and women from South 24-Parganas who joined the party. Most of them had defected from Trinamool Congress, the party's alliance partner. They marched to Bidhan Bhavan, the state Congress headquarters, state party chief Pradip Bhattacharya handed the supporters with party flags. Today,we are into alliance politics in the state and in future too we will have to be in alliance, Bhattacharya told the new entrants and asked them to abide by the restrictions of the alliance politics. Congress leader Om Prakash Mishra sad that those who joined the party today were grassroots cadres and most of them are very industrious. It happened in the past that our supporters have gone to other parties, including the Trinamool. Now,what we are seeing is a reversal of the trend, Mishra said. However, unlike the Trinamool, which has has been successful in poaching several Congress leaders and gave them plum party posts, the Congress today had no big names to announce. Gautam Ghosh, who left Trinamool to join Congress, said that people switch from one party to another when they are not satisfied with the politics of the party.
