he Purba Medinipur police have arrested one more person in connection with the murder of a BJP leader in Moyna block of the district, taking the total number of arrests in the case to four.(Express Photo) THE CRIMINAL Investigation Department (CID) has taken over the investigation into a road accident in Chandipur village of Purba Medinipur, days after a man died after allegedly being knocked down by a car part of the convoy of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari’s convoy in Purba Medinipur district on Thursday night.
Sheikh Israfil, 33, was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
One person has been arrested in the case. Police identified the arrested person as Anand Kumar Pandey, a CRPF constable and the driver of a bullet-resistant vehicle that was a part of Adhikari’s convoy. A case was registered against the accused under IPC section 304(ii) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).
The incident also triggered a political tussle, with the TMC launching protests against Adhikari.
Moyna murder: One more held
Kolkata: The Purba Medinipur police have arrested one more person in connection with the murder of a BJP leader in Moyna block of the district, taking the total number of arrests in the case to four.
“Subrata Mondal was arrested from his residence in Goramahal area. Two persons were arrested on Saturday,” said a senior police officer. The family of the deceased filed a written complaint with police and named 34 people who they claimed were involved in the crime.
