CESC to revive Balagarh power project

Kolkata:RP-Sanjiv Goenka group company CESC Ltd has decided to revive the abandoned Balagarh power project in West Bengal at an estimated investment of Rs 10,500 crore,a top company official said here on Tuesday. “We had a discussion with the state government recently in this regard. Following it,the board has cleared the Balagarh project to set up three super-critical power projects of 660 MW each,” said CESC Vice-Chairman Sanjiv Goenka. The state government has promised to provide coal linkage for the project,said Goenka.

EFR personnel shoots self

Purulia:An Eastern Frontier Rifles (EFR) personnel on Tuesday shot himself dead with his service revolver in Purulia district,police said. Sandip Thapa (45),allegedly shot himself with his service revolver while he was alone in his room at Tamna Phari,said SP of Purulia C Sudhakar said. Thapa,who hailed from Kurseong in north Bengal,was apparently under depression,Sudhakar said. Investigation is on,he said.

‘Talpur-Arambag rail line be finished early’

Kolkata:General Manager of Eastern Railway G C Agarwal on Tuesday called for the early completion of 20-km long new broad gauge railway line between Talpur and Arambag. The stretch is a part of 82-km long Tarakeswar-Bishnupur new broad gauge railway line construction project. Agarwal said this during an inspection of the project.
