The former Bengal chief minister said the recently concluded panchayat polls have shown that the Communists have not disappeared from the contest. “We are very much there,having registered our strength in districts like Nadia,Malda,Murshidabad,Jalpaiguri and North Dinajpur. The CPM has not vanished in thin air as is being claimed,he said.

While remembering Muzaffar Ahmed — known in the party as “Kakababu” — Bhattacharjee regretted that the party rectificatoin drive has not gained as much momentum as it should have been.

“We have identified the malady that brought our downfall and accordingly launched the rectificatioin drive. We are committed to it. We have come to the Communist party not to make money or accummulate wealth. The party men will have to understand this. But there are still certain people whose faces people do not want to see,as they are corrupt. Our party is committed to remove those faces. That is the best way we can pay homage to our leader like Kakababu,” said Bhattacharjee.

Attacking the Trinamool Congress,Bhattacharjee said: “The government is being run by anti-socials.”
