BITM exhibition celebrates ISRO mission to study Sun — Aditya L-1

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Saturday placed Aditya-L1 into its destination orbit Lagrange Point 1. The Lagrange point 1 (L1) of the Sun-Earth system is about 1.5 million kilometres from the Earth. It is about one per cent of the total distance between the Earth and the Sun.

The Birla Industrial and Technological Museum’s (BITM) Astronomy Club in Kolkata on Saturday hosted an event to mark ISRO’s successful mission of placing Aditya-L1 into the Lagrangian Point L1.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Saturday placed Aditya-L1 into its destination orbit Lagrange Point 1. The Lagrange point 1 (L1) of the Sun-Earth system is about 1.5 million kilometres from the Earth. It is about one per cent of the total distance between the Earth and the Sun.

The exhibition was curated by BITM’s curator by Dr Rakesh Mazumder and it delved into the intricacies of Aditya-L1’s forau into the Sun’s orbit. “Today’s event was organised to make people understand the track of the satellite, Aditya L1,” said Mazumder.

BITM’s technical officer, Tarun Das, said, “We might just cover 1 per cent of the journey, but this is four times more distance between moon and earth. Who knows, one of the students who are coming here may get inspired to become an ISRO scientist one day.”
