EVEN as reports of attack on CPM cadres allegedly by Trinamool Congress workers came pouring in from the districts on Thursday,the last two days of violence triggered by the event in Delhi where SFI supporters heckled Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Finance Minister Amit Mitra have witnessed assaults of at least six former CPM ministers.
Among the first senior CPM leaders to come feel the brunt of Trinamool assault was former higher education minister Sudarshan Roy Choudhury whose car was stopped and torched in Hooghly. Former Land and Land Reform minister and controversial CPM MLA Abdur Rezzak Mollah was next. His vehicle was attacked by crude bombs in South 24-Parganas. In both the incidents,the former ministers escaped unhurt.
Minati Ghosh,state secretary of the women wing of CPM and a state committee member,was also not spared. attacked. The former minister of state for family welfare department has been hospitalised and is stated to be in a critical condition.
Former animal resource minister Narayan Biswas was also attacked and admitted in a local hospital in North Dinajpur.
On Thursday,Trinamool cadres blocked the car in which Leader of the Opposition Surya Kanta Mishra in Bankura while he was returning after holding a public meeting there. The former health minister was shown black flags.
In three days,three of our former ministers were attacked physically and they were admitted. Vehicles of three ministers were attacked. More importantly,more than 1,000 incidents of violence were reported in last two days for such an incident which we never called petty,small and concocted. Rather we have condemned the incident. But the violence is continuing unabated, said Mishra.
There are reports that at least 35 houses of CPM supporters were set on fire at Khanakul in Hooghly on Thursday. CPM offices were also ransacked in North and South 24 Parganas.
